At Marra Senki BJJ Academy safety is paramount. Accidents may happen, however, lack of seriousness during training and the resultant careless application of technique or counters contribute greatly to injury. Careless practice is disrespectful to the spirit of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and we do not allow it.

As with other martial arts, the progress of a student is marked with a series of colored belts. The belts in order are: White, Blue, Purple, Brown and Black. We award four stripes for White belt and often award stripes for Blue belt through Brown belt.

Typically, it takes anywhere from 8 to 15 years to attain the rank of Black Belt in Jiu-Jitsu. Each belt takes about 2-5 years of dedicated practice.

Martial Arts is great for Children…
A psychological study found that children who study martial arts have an increased sense of responsibility, a decrease in the willingness to take foolish risks, and a higher sense of self-esteem. This is why millions of parents are using martial arts to supplement their children’s education.
BJJ techniques are great for children! It’s a remarkable confidence-builder. And in some situations, especially at school and in environments with lawsuit-happy parents, it’s preferable for children to escape a confrontation by forcing their opponent into submission with BJJ techniques rather than beating down their opponent with their fists.
